Drawing musical instruments are a combination of both enjoyment and gratification when you are able to convey the excellence of something important onto paper.

If you’ve never draw a musical instrument before, this would be a good place to start. There isn’t really much to do but it’s important to get the overall shape of the violin down correctly and the rest will be easy to fill in.
You don’t need any complicated drawing skills for this one but you can grab a ruler if you would like to get a straight line for but you can easily freehand this entire drawing.
Grab a pencil and let’s get started.

For this violin drawing, we’ll be basing our sketch off from this reference image. You can choose any image you like but this one includes all the important details we need to include.

As we can determine from this photo, the body of the violin is quite curved in shape on the top and the bottom but it also curves in the center of the violin.
Then there is the long neck which runs from the top to the middle. There are also a few knobs at the very top of the violin.
These details will make up majority of the drawing so it’s a good idea to pick out the parts we know will have to be drawn.
Steps For Drawing A Violin
Step 1

To begin your violin drawing, draw a half circle but erasing a small space at the very top. Then, you should draw a line that angles out and then curves in.
Step 2

Continue drawing a shape that curves in like done so above and then at the bottom, draw a line that reaches a point on either side.
Step 3

You’ll then want to continue drawing those lines down continuing to create the curved pattern as done here but also making sure to include those spaces where the bottom details of the violin will be.
Step 4

At the bottom, first draw a curved shape and then draw two lines that go up but extends in such a way in which it looks like a triangle sort of shape. You can even draw a few circles within that shape since this will be one of the parts where the strings will join.
Step 5

Now we’ll continue to add details to the violin and you can do so by drawing these two S shaped designs on either side of the violin near where it curves in. Don’t forget to draw the rectangle in the middle of those and draw a few strings as well.
Step 6

To draw the neck of the violin, begin by drawing two parallel lines and then another straight line to close this shape off. These lines should start from where you had previously left that space empty when you had just started your violin drawing.
Step 7

Continue drawing those lines higher up but making sure that they narrow as they go further up to show the length of the neck. Also, include the lines of the strings as well for extra details.
Step 8

You’ll then want to work on drawing the top section of the violin. Begin by drawing the scroll at the top in a roundish sort of shape and add two small squares on either side of that.
Step 9

Moving down a little from that top part, draw the knobs of the violin on either side of the neck. These don’t need to look perfect or be in line with each other but make sure to leave a bit of space when you do so.
Now your violin drawing is complete and I’m sure you’ve just realized how simple and easy it was to recreate this drawing.
Conclusion
As I promised, you don’t need any fancy or advanced drawing skills but you should be comfortable with drawing a few curves and straight lines.
If you feel like you might mess up the neck of the violin and worried that you won’t be able to keep that straight shape, then make use of a ruler.
This will be much easier to draw those lines as well as the string lines and your drawing will turn out way better.
I hope you found this tutorial on how to draw a violin simple and easy to follow. You just need to take your time and sketch out each step as you go but you can stop and consider how each shape should look.
