How To Draw A Lamp (2 Easy Ways To Draw Lamps)

Would you like to learn to draw something less common but still fun? Then why not try to learn how to draw a lamp? I’ve put together a complete tutorial on how to draw two different types of lamps that are both interesting and enjoyable.

The first lamp we’ll be drawing is more of a basic lamp that you’ll see around a lot in homes and is typically used in the bedrooms or lounge while the other lamp is generally used as a desk lamp since it’s handle can be adjusted and bent for better lighting.

Either way, both lamp drawings are definitely worth trying. Just about anyone can try to draw them since this tutorial does not require any fancy skills for this particular drawing.

We’ll begin by drawing the lampshade part first and then move onto the stands. You’ll find that your drawing will move along much faster and easier.

Steps For Drawing A Beside Lamp

Step 1

Step 1

To begin your first lampshade drawing, draw a line horizontally and then draw two lines on either side in an angle going down.

Step 2

Step 2

You’ll then want to join those two lines by drawing another line curving in as I have done here.

Step 3

Once you have completed the previous step, you can then draw another curved line facing upwards making it look like an eye shape. Make sure to leave a bit of space by erasing the middle part for where the lines for the stand will be.

You’ll now want to draw two lines going straight down, joining the shape you had just drawn in the middle.

Step 4

To complete your first lamp drawing, simply draw another circle with the stand coming halfway down that circle, intersecting in the middle of the circle.

Then on either side, draw a short line and close it off by matching the top line and your drawing is complete.

You can now move on to the next lamp drawing tutorial.

Reference

Lamp Drawing Reference

For this tutorial, we’ll be basing our drawing off this reference. It’s a really nice and unique design that I think will make a great drawing and we get to have the globe included as well.

We’ll begin by drawing the head of the lamp and then move downwards by drawing the stand. As indicated, the holder is bent in an angle and the rest of it goes straight down with a circular base.

Let’s start.

Step 1

Step 1

Draw an oval in an angle and then draw a circle on the right hand side of the oval as I have done over here. You’ll be left with a shape that looks like a sideways eye.

Step 2

Step 2

From one end of that oval you had drawn, you’ll want to then draw two lines coming out that draws together at the end and then joins with another line.

Step 3

Lamp Drawing Step 3

Draw another two lines in an upwards directions and then close that off with a curved line.

After that, draw a square under the shape you had just drawn and then continue drawing two more lines that curve in the middle but straightens out as it goes down.

Step 4

Lamp Drawing Step 4

Now you’ll want to finish off your second lamp drawing by adding the stand and then you are ready to color your drawing in or leave it as is.

Conclusion

Although drawing a lamp is not quite a common object you’d normally think to draw, it’s definitely one that has its own charm.

You can learn a lot from this drawing and it gives you an opportunity to put together a drawing that is made up of many lines and shapes. It is challenging in a way but not too difficult where you can consider this drawing a failure.

I’m happy with how my lamp drawings turned out even if it is more on the cuter side of things rather than looking exactly like the reference but that is what makes it more unique.

The whole point of drawing is to just have fun and try new things to draw like we have done here. You never know when you’ll come across a drawing that surprised you and one which made you engrossed in what you were doing.

If you would like to try out other drawings like this, then make sure to check out this paint brush drawing, feather drawing, or this strawberry drawing, which are all fantastic for beginners to become better at drawing.

That’s all from me, see you in the next drawing tutorial.
