Reference

Before we get started, let’s take a quick look at our reference. This will be the flamingo that we will draw.

This standing pose is great for beginners to start with and you don’t need to concern yourself with worrying about whether the beak looks accurate at a certain angle.

Flamingo Drawing Reference

There’s two parts to this flamingo and we can divide it into two sections to determine how high it should be. From the head to the tail, we can consider this the first section whereas the legs on their own can be considered the second section.

For this drawing, we will draw the beak and then move downwards towards the legs.

Sounds good? Let’s start.

Steps For Drawing A Flamingo

Step 1

Draw a petal shape like shown above however shade the bottom in with your pencil and draw a line from that shape to top of that shape This is the beak of the flamingo.

Step 2

You’ll then want to draw a curved shape and then draw two lines to create the head. You can match these lines to the middle of the beak for the bottom line but be sure to make the top line more curved upwards.

Step 3

It’s easy so far, right? For the next step, extend those two lines from before to create the neck of the flamingo. As you can see, these two lines are quite thin and they angle towards the left as it comes down. Make sure to also add a tiny dot for the eye.

Step 4

Now on one line, draw a U shape and curve it upwards. For the other line, continue drawing that line going down but be sure to make it slightly curved.

Step 5

Now it’s time to draw the body. Draw a large curved line just as it is shown over here. You can use the height of the neck to determine how high this curved line should be.

Step 6

You’ll then want to include the first few feathers and to do this, curve the line and then draw it inwards. From that line, draw another line that shoots out.

Step 7

Create a pointed top by drawing the next few lines for the tail and include another line that curves in an angle.

Your flamingo drawing is nearly complete but you do need to include the feathers on the body, Once you do this, you can now color your drawing in if you want.

I’ve used a few shades of pink for the body but you can make the legs a shade of cream or light brown if you want.

Conclusion

For this drawing, I didn’t put in too much focus on details but I wanted to capture the overall look of a flamingo.
