How To Draw A Candy Cane In 6 Easy Steps
The candy cane is my favorite candy of all time. It just makes me think of the festive season and I’m taken back to my childhood days. But, I know you’re not here to listen to me yap on about what I like to eat so let’s get straight into this guide on how to draw a candy cane.
This is one of the best drawings for beginners because it’s simple and doesn’t require you to focus on intricate angles, spacing or perspectives.
You’ll learn how to properly curve lines as well as use them to create a swirling effect to an image. This can prove to be very useful when drawing items like ice cream or liquid subjects.
With that being said, let’s take a look at our reference image below which we will use for our candy cane drawing.
Reference
The average candy cane looks like a hook that’s reversed in structure. The one and only curve covers a small distance and is quite gradual as it leads into a fairly straight long line.

The only aspect of a candy cane drawing that can appear to be complicated is the swirling effect but I’ll show you exactly how to draw them just like in the image above.
Steps For Drawing A Candy Cane
Step 1

Let’s begin this drawing by creating our first candy cane line that looks a lot like a hook or walking aid. The rounded line that leads into the longest straight line is quite gradual. There’s really nothing jagged or sharp about this drawing.
Step 2

Now, at each point of your line, create a slightly curved horizontal line about 1.5cm in length extending outwardly. This will be used to connect our second baseline.
Step 3

In this step, we are essentially completing the outline of our candy by replicating what we did in step one. Simply connect the two-points on either end by following the structure of your candy cane.
Step 4

Now comes my favorite part of this candy cane drawing which is the swirls.
We will use slightly curved lines that follow the path of the candy cane. With each line, curve it at a rightward angle along with your candy cane.
Step 5

Around the midpoint of your candy cane, change the direction of your curve.
Up until now, the inside of your curved lines was progressing downward. Now, for this portion of your candy cane, reverse the curve to face the direction of where the last curve ended.
Step 6

Add about half a dozen of these lines until your last line ends towards the base of your candy cane. The end result should look something like this image above.

Conclusion
There you have it! You can successfully draw a candy cane in literally a few minutes and it can look really cute and accurate.
I would suggest coloring your candy cane.
Draw a few of these and use different flag colors or themes to create what looks like a really nice candy cane collection.
If you color in one twirl, skip the other and color in the following one. Alternatively, use two colors and alternate them with each twirl. It’s really as simple as that.
With that being said, I hope you found this step-by-step guide on how to draw a candy cane to be simple, fun and easy to complete. If you’d like for me to draw something specific, head over the comment section below and let me know.
